My Background
I have a diverse background in arts and health and have always interested in the transformational power of therapy. In 1997, following a teaching career I became a Music Psychotherapist. I ran my own successful practice, working also in Education, the NHS and various charities. I did some teaching, published articles about my work and since 2012, have been supervising younger colleagues. After this, I trained as a UKCP-registered Psychotherapist. This felt like an exciting move. from music to words- like a new conversation across brain hemispheres.
I started my own private psychotherapy practice in 2021 and it feels fitting now that I integrate EMDR into my work, a therapy based on the healing, holistic activation of both sides of the brain. I draw heavily upon my advanced training in Attachment-Focussed EMDR, which emphasises the role of the imagination to create sufficient stablization for effective trauma-processing. I also offer grounding practices from Music Psychotherapy, which engages the brain’s natural medicine - imagery and the imagination. I am indeed the only UK EMDR Psychotherapist with this background and able to offer something so safe, accessible, yet powerful.
In my spare time, I am a keen local singer...I love being expressive, singing beautiful music with groups of people. I am also interested in how to stay active, healthy, wellbeing and have a 'good' life.
